What kinds of problems do you treat?

l help adults, men and women, reduce their suffering and distress, and be happier, healthier, stronger and more resilient.

For example:
Are you tense?  Nervous?  Anxious?  Do you worry a lot?
Do you second-guess yourself a lot?  Doubt yourself?  Criticize yourself?
Are you dealing with your own illness?  Are you worn out from taking care of someone else?
Are experiences from your past still haunting you, not letting you live the way you want to, today?
Are you having trouble sleeping?

Those are some of the things I can help you with.

Imagine…
Being calm, focused, creative, and insightful.
Handling whatever life dishes out with confidence and clarity.
Being healthier, with a more powerful immune system.
Getting unstuck from painful old experiences and traumas, and living
freely and joyfully.
Falling asleep easily, so you’re energized and refreshed.

Imagine… being POWERFUL, CALM, HEALTHY AND JOYFUL.

Therapy can make that happen.

What's therapy like?

First of all, the therapy office is your safe space: totally private and confidential.
You can be yourself: say what you want, feel what you feel.  You don’t have to be “polite” or “strong” to protect anyone else – your family, friends, or co-workers.  You can “let your hair down” and be honest and open about what you’re going through.
That’s already a great relief!

Then, in that safe space, we’ll explore the issues and challenges you are facing.   I’ll teach you how to release and even heal old ways of thinking and behaving that aren’t working for you. You’ll learn new ways of acting and reacting that will let you feel better and function better.  You’ll first learn and practice these techniques and approaches together with me in our sessions, and then you’ll test them for real as you go through your daily life,  to see how they work for you and so we can fine-tune them to your exact needs.  This will put you in control of your reactions, your health, and your wellbeing.  You’ll create and live the life you want.

What’s my role, as your therapist?

To make sure you feel safe and supported.
To help you explore, openly and honestly, whatever you are dealing with.
To teach you:
how to relieve and release what’s troubling you.
how to handles hassles and challenges more effectively and confidently
how to free yourself from troubling past events and limiting beliefs.
To help you live a full, healthy, and joyous life.

What’s your role in our therapy work together?
What’s expected of you?

To get the results you want,  you have to participate fully in the process.
This means attending sessions regularly and on time, and paying for them according to the schedule you work out with me.  You practice your new skills and techniques between sessions, so you can test them out and develop confidence in using them.  You give me honest feedback about your reactions to our work together, including your experiences in our sessions and your progress in your daily life.

How long does therapy take?

That’s a great question:  of course you want to know how much time, energy and money therapy will take.

Before I can give you any estimates of time, cost etc. I first have to meet with you, begin to get to know you and understand what you’re dealing with.  Once I do that, I can present my understanding of your situation and how we might address it.

Now, consider these factors:

1. Individual therapy is not a pre-set course or program with a fixed curriculum.  Individual therapy is tailored to YOU.  It’s as open-ended and flexible as you may want or need it to be.  We can also adjust this as we go along.

2. How fast change can happen depends on a number of factors:
You only need an instant — one conscious breath — to release tension, reduce stress, and experience freedom and joy.  IF you remember to take that breath.   You can change habits in a few weeksif you practice your new skills consistently.

Change can take longer when you’re dealing with old ingrained beliefs and habits, or traumatic events.

Nowadays, we have faster, more effective ways than ever before to help you make the changes you want.
But change still depends on the issues and problems you are dealing with and the kinds of the changes you want to make.
It also very much depends on how active you are in your own therapy, and on how well we work together.

I’m ready to do my part.
Are you ready to do yours?

Will my symptoms come back after treatment is over?

If you’re asking if you will ever experience anxiety or stress again, even after therapy, the answer is:  you might.  After all, life is full of challenges.    But the tools you will have learned in therapy will let you handle it much better.  You’ll keep your cool better.  You won’t get as triggered as quickly.
And you’ll snap out of it faster.  That’s RESILIENCE.

If you’re asking if it’s possible to clear old traumas, the answer is yes.
If you deal with them not just by talking about them, not just by understanding them theoretically, but by healing them in your body, cells, brain, and nervous system, you can release many old traumatic events and heal from them.  You can be free.

I am a religious person. Does being in therapy pose any halakhic problems?

My work is respectful of and compatible with with all spiritual orientations and religious traditions.  Haredi clients can feel comfortable knowing
that approaches such as mindfulness and energy therapies have been reviewed and approved by leading Haredi rabbis.

Can you explain what mindfulness is?

Sometimes it’s easier to explain what mindfulness is by starting with what mindLESSness is.
When we’re mindLESS, we’re on autopilot.  We do things by rote, without paying attention to what we’re doing.  Sometimes that seems to make us efficient; we can cook dinner and answer the phone at the same time.  But that also costs us.  We may miss many meaningful moments in our lives.  We make mistakes when we’re not paying full attention to what we’re doing.  And we automatically react to events and situation in old habitual ways that make us unhappy and stressed.

Hundreds of years ago, the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu explained it this way:
If you’re anxious, he said, it’s because you’re living in the future.
If you’re depressed, it’s because you’re living in the past.
We all get used to these ways of reacting and get stuck in them.
So how can we get ‘un-stuck’ so we can be happier, healthier, more peaceful?
That’s where MINDFULNESS comes in.
When you’re mindful, you can stop those patterns and shift out of them quickly.  You learn to live in the present.  As Lao Tzu put it:  If you’re peaceful, you’re living in the present.

Mindfulness is a powerful combination of age-old wisdom PLUS scientific evidence-based research PLUS practical tools you can use right away to improve almost every area of your life.  Here are some of the benefits of mindfulness according to research:
     Less tension
     Less anxiety and worry
     Less anger and irritability
     More ease and confidence
     Better concentration
     Higher productivity
     More creativity
     Better sleep
     Getting along better with others
     Higher grades
     Better immunity

Mindfulness puts YOU in charge of your mind, your reactions, your actions–in short, your life.

Can you explain energy psychology?

If I asked you: “what do you think influences you, your health, and your performance?” you might say things like thoughts and emotions, and physical things like nervous impulses, chemicals, hormones, genes and DNA.

All that’s true.  But there’s more.  We’re also influenced by various forms of ENERGY.  Like electrical energy, for example.  And if that sounds weird, remember that an EEG measures electrical impulses in our bodies.

The Chinese have been studying this for thousands of years, creating the science of acupuncture.  They believe that we get sick – physically or emotionally – because energy is stuck somewhere in our systems.  To treat this, an acupuncturist inserts tiny, very fine (painless!) needles
into specific locations
along our energy ‘highways’ or meridians.  This releases blocked energy and lets us heal.

Today we know that we can produce similar results without the needles, by tapping or pressing gently on those same energy points.

How would you like to be able to easily and painlessly cut your stress level almost in half in just minutes — simply by tapping or pressing on a few spots around your face and upper body?
You can.

These techniques can also:
       reduce anxiety, depression, and anger
reduce traumatic memories and PTSD symptoms
       reduce allergic reactions
       reduce cravings
       clear phobias and fears
       help you sleep better
produce improvements in fibromyalgia, pain, headaches, frozen shoulder, psoriasis, obesity, and cardiovascular function.

These techniques can also improve your performance: on tests, in sports, and at work.

That’s why more and more people in all walks of life — doctors, mental health workers, business people, educators and athletes — are using them for themselves and in their work.

I use two of these techniques in my work:  Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as “tapping”, and Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT).

I like them because:
They work faster than traditional therapies.
They are often gentler and less intrusive than traditional therapies.
They’re easy to learn and easy to use
Just a few minutes may be all you need to feel calmer and back in control.

How long does therapy take?

  – oneIt’s reasonable to wonder:
how much time, energy and money will therapy take?

So let me ask you:
Would you expect your mechanic to diagnose your car
and give you a price quote
without first thoroughly checking it out?
I doubt it.
And you are much more complicated than your car!  🙂

Before I can give you any estimates of time, cost etc.
I first have to meet with you, begin to get to know you
and understand what you’re dealing with.

Second: individual therapy is not
a pre-set course or program
with a fixed curriculum.
Individual therapy is tailored
to YOU.
It’s open-ended and flexible,
We can adjust it to your needs.

Third: how fast can someone change?
It only takes an instant — one conscious breath —
           to release tension, reduce stress,
and experience freedom and joy –
           in an instant.
           in your very next breath.

You can change in a few weeks –
if you practice your new skills consistently.

Change can take longer
when you’re dealing with old ingrained beliefs and habits,
or traumatic events.

Nowadays, we do have faster, more effective ways
to help you make the changes you want than ever before.
But it still depends on a few factors:

  • The issues and problems you are dealing with
  • What you want to achieve, what changes you want to make
  • How active a role you take in the process
  • How well you and your therapist work together
  • Being open and honest with your therapist about how the process is going

I’m ready to do my part.
Are you ready to do yours?

Will my symptoms come back after treatment is over?

Will you experience anxiety or stress again, even after therapy?
Probably, yes.  After all, life is challenging, and full of surprises.

The real question is this:
Will you BE ABLE TO HANDLE anxiety and stress better, after therapy?
YES.
You’ll keep your cool better.
You won’t get as triggered as quickly.
You’ll snap out of it faster.  You’ll recover faster.
THAT’S RESILIENCE.

Is it possible to clear old traumas?
Yes.
If you deal with them
not just by talking about them, not just by understanding them,
but by healing them in your body, cells, brain, and nervous system.
You can be free.

My work is respectful of and compatible with all spiritual orientations and religious traditions.  Haredi clients can feel comfortable knowing that approaches such as mindfulness and energy therapies have been reviewed and approved by leading Haredi rabbis.

Can you explain what mindfulness is?

Hundreds of years ago, the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu
diagnosed what makes us unhappy.
If you’re anxious, he said,
it’s because you’re living in the future.
if you’re depressed,
it’s because you’re living in the past.

And he had a prescription, a suggestion,
for how to stop all that,
and be happier, healthier, more peaceful:
Live in the present.

Sounds good, right? But how?

Enter: Mindfulness.

Mindfulness techniques give you the tools
to stop those automatic patterns of thinking, acting
and reacting in their tracks.
Those patterns have been running your life,
making you tense and unhappy for years,
without you even realizing it.

NO MORE.

Being mindful puts YOU in charge
of your mind, your reactions,
and your actions.  Your life.

Mindfulness combines
